Johannes Tress (*1990) began piano lessons at the age of 17 and then organ lessons with Father Paulus Blum in Bad Wurzach. After graduating from the Salvator College there, he studied Latin and theology in Freiburg. However, his passion for music soon drew him to the University of Church Music in Rottenburg am Neckar, where he graduated in 2018 with a degree in organ (Prof. Heinrich Walther and Prof. Stefan Palm), improvisation (cathedral organist Prof. Ruben Sturm), choral conducting (Prof. Jan Schumacher and Prof. Alexander Burda) and singing (Christine Müller and Thomas Scharr). As part of his studies, he attended masterclasses with Naji Hakim (Paris), Guy Bovet (Switzerland), Harald Vogel (Bremen), Frieder Bernius (Stuttgart), Hans-Christoph Rademann (Dresden), Lone Larsen (Stockholm) and Alastair Thompson (The King’s Singers), among others. Johannes Tress has been a full-time church musician at the parish of St Nicholas in Markdorf since March 2018. He also completed a master’s degree in choral conducting in Rottenburg. He has been the choirmaster of the women’s choir “Le Crescentis” since 2021. He is a répétiteur at the music school in Bad Waldsee and teaches at the DCV and BJBC. He is also a singer in various ensembles (Schola Uncinus, Mannes Sangesmannen, Klangzeit, Ex Corde).
